What a year!
That describes every minute of 2015. Have you ever seen that video of a snowboarder flying down the ridges of a mountain? He makes it, btw, but that's kind of how we felt; fast and furious with lots of uncertainty and split second decisions. Yeah, it's been that kind of year. And, we are grateful for every second. Now, that I have a minute to reflect, I'd like to share my highlights and maybe not dwell too much on the low points. Who would?
First, in January, we welcomed our friend James Geiger into a role with the band. He is our right hand, trusted confidant, and best friend. He takes many roles, actually. Public relations, booking, social media, web master, photographer. The most important is friend. James, if you're reading this, we couldn't have done it without you! We learned so much during that first part of the year. It's during those crazy times that you really learn who you can trust. Thanks, James!
We also added an incredible rhythm guitarist, Cory Jones, to our line-up. Cory is that sharp arrow in the quiver. The one you don't want to be without. I'm so happy to have him next to me on the stage and in the band.
As the year marched on, we wrote some killer music, experimented with some different sounds, tried a bunch of genres, and honed our acoustic sets. We had some amazing opportunities that we are proud to have been included in. From a live spot on 2 radio stations, WMNF and 102.5 The Bone, to Rock the Park Tampa and Rock the Park NPR, Snowfest in Safety Harbor and back to St. Petersburg at the Local 662, we've rocked every stage we could fit on!
We also got into the studio to record a very poignant song that James asked us to write. It's a song with a very strong and meaningful message to help those who struggle with negative judgment and bullying. We wrote it to offer strength to those dealing with that. Check out "What I Am." I can't sing it without getting choked up a bit.
Then, in June, something incredible happened. By what felt like a long shot, we entered into the Tampa Bay Acoustic Music Festival at the Seminole Hard Rock Cafe in Tampa. Out of 60 bands, we were one of 10 chosen to be Tampa Hard Rock Cafe Brand Ambassadors and performing musicians at the Hard Rock. It was kind of life changing and really pushed us to "up our game." We are forever grateful to those who helped us prepare for that event and helped us along the way. Once again, we learned so much more.
Now, as 2016 looms ahead, I have what's probably the most important opportunity. That's the opportunity to reflect on the journey. And what I'm finding is the recurring theme of learning and growth. Not only do I not look like a little kid anymore, but both myself and the band have changed and become just a bit wiser and a lot better. Everyday we live our dream and with every step forward and maybe backwards or sideways, we get to experience it all together. And, that's what's important, right? I love my band. I'm not sure what the future holds, but I'm just so happy to be taking those steps with them. Hear that PJ, Taylor, and Cory? I love my bros!
